Palm Beach Symphony Accepting Nominations For Awards Honoring Students and Teachers

October 12, 2022

With a reach last year of nearly 8,000 K through 12 students, Palm Beach Symphony is once again recognizing the community’s most impactful instructors and up to three outstanding high school musicians.

Nominations are now open for both the annual Instrumental Music Teacher of the Year and Lisa Bruna B-Major Awards.

“Education is one of the pillars of our mission,” said Palm Beach CEO David McClymont. “Those we honor as the Instrumental Music Teacher of the Year are inspiring the musicians and audiences of tomorrow. With the Lisa Bruna B-Major Award, we continue to honor our late director of marketing and communications for whom it is named by providing talented high school seniors with an instrument suitable for auditions at the nation’s top music schools and the start of their professional careers.”

2022 Instrumental Music Teacher of the Year Nominations

Students, parents, colleagues and members of the community are asked to nominate an outstanding 2022 Instrumental Music Teacher of the Year by filling out a brief nomination form before the deadline of Tuesday, November 1 at 5 p.m. Open to K-12 educators in public, private, and charter schools in Palm Beach County with a minimum of three years’ experience, the annual award recognizes educators who teach and inspire students while also taking an active role in the community.

A panel of judges comprised of musicians, industry professionals, and other educators will determine the winner who will receive a “Basket of Indulgences” filled with gift items and local gift certificates. The honor also provides educational opportunities for the winner’s students that include coaching sessions by Palm Beach Symphony musicians, a classroom visit by Symphony Music Director Gerard Schwarz, an invitation for a student music ensemble of the teacher’s choice to perform at a Symphony event, and complimentary tickets for the winner’s classes to attend a Symphony concert this season.

2022 Lisa Bruna B-Major Award Nominations

Palm Beach Symphony is also now accepting nominations from music teachers and private instructors for the Lisa Bruna B-Major Award through Wednesday, November 19. The award will honor one to three high school seniors in Palm Beach County with each working closely with the Symphony to identify, test, and select the ideal advanced level instrument.

Eligible students must be current high school seniors in good academic standing who are planning to enter a music degree program at a university or institution of higher learning. Nominations will be judged on the nominee’s accomplishments and activities (academic, musical, and in the community), future musical plans, and financial need. One or more winners will be determined by audition with finalists participating in an interview and playing two contrasting musical works in front of a panel of judges.

Complete details and the nomination forms are available in the programs tab under Awards and Competitions at palmbeachsymhony.org.
